When Porsha signed up for Niki’s workforce development classes through our Community Reinvestment Grant, it was more than just another enrollment—it was a full-circle moment. The two women have known each other for years, and there was a special joy in reconnecting through a shared purpose.
After spending years in short-term jobs with limited prospects, Porsha was ready for a change. She wanted stability, a future she could build toward, and the ability to set—and reach—meaningful goals. Now six years sober, Porsha is employed at Solar Edge, is OSHA-certified, and a proud Union member. She’s taken every opportunity to grow, and her momentum is inspiring.
Life hasn’t been easy for Porsha. She has lost custody of some of her children and carries a significant child support debt. While others might try to avoid such obligations, Porsha chooses a different path. She discloses what she owes to every employer with honesty and integrity, committed to facing her responsibilities head-on. It’s this kind of character that sets her apart.
Now, she’s dreaming even bigger. Her next goal is to become an electrician, and she’s currently studying for her license. Niki says she can’t teach the kind of drive that Porsha has—it’s just who she is. Together, they’ve formed a powerful mentor-mentee partnership rooted in trust, shared history, and mutual respect.
At Catholic Charities, we are honored to support Porsha on her journey. She continues to rise to every challenge, and we couldn’t be prouder.
